It was sunhigh on a chilly leaf-fall day. It was the warmest time of the day, the time of day where prey left their dens to collect food. Sageflower had just sent off another hunting patrol with a wave of his tail and turned to gather a few more cats to join a patrol of his own. It wouldn't be too long before the cold kept prey from venturing out into the forest and he fully intended on taking advantage of the present, when prey was still running. While prey wasn't as abundant as it was in green-leaf, there was still enough to feed the clan. It would've been nice if Sunning Rocks belonged to ThunderClan at the moment, but Sageflower wasn't about to complain about what he had.
He brightened at the sight of his leader, Thornstar. They'd been working together as ThunderClan's authority figures for only two moons, not nearly long enough to adjust to each other completely in their new positions. They'd been clanmates together for moons before, sure, but that had been as warriors, not leader and deputy. It still felt odd to assign his clanmates to patrols and discuss ThunderClan's status with his leader when only two moons earlier, he'd been the one being assigned to patrols and leaving the big decisions up to his predecessor.
The thick-furred tomcat approached Thornstar, a bit of a jump in his step. Sageflower looked forward to spending time with her, getting to know one another better. He imagined that if they were to give their clanmates a good life, they should get along. He understood disagreements were inevitable, but the fact that they both had ThunderClan's best interests at heart lessened the anxiety that often plagued his mind.
"Hello, Thornstar," Sageflower greeted with a respectful dip of his head. "I was wondering if you'd be up to a hunting patrol? I just sent one out, toward the Great Sycamore. We can head out in the direction of Sunning Rocks."
He shifted uneasily at the mention of the disputed territory. Tensions were especially high between ThunderClan and RiverClan ever since they laid claim to land that rightfully belonged to ThunderClan. Sageflower knew they'd have to discuss how to tackle that issue, and honestly, he wasn't very eager to do so.
