hey youngblood
i'll raise you like a phoenix
the stench of the thunderpath was thick.
finchclaw's death sat heavy in violetdawn's mind. although she hadn't been close to the tom, it was still an event that was capable of shaking shadowclan to it's core. to have been so brutally slaughtered at the thunderclan border, with no evidence, the scent of the thunderpath so overwhelming that it left no trace behind of any thunderclan warrior... she despised it. to think that they could be brought to shame by something as simple as a murder mystery. it left her tail bristling every time she stalked along the thunderpath, and before she knew it, she had walked the length of shadowclan territory, no longer at the thunderclan border but the windclan border. her tail swept from side to side in an agitated motion, her head low and claws unsheathed as she practically tore up earth with her each and every step.
as shadowclan's new deputy, she was determined to make her mark on the clan. already as a senior warrior she had taken up plenty of responsibilities for herself to exact upon her fellow warriors, organizing extra patrols whenever enough warriors were left in camp to do so. now, however, she truly had that power to have her clanmates at her beckon and whim. shadowclan would not be humiliated like this again. they would not be brought to shame, not under her vigilant watch. where ramstar had his soft moments, complacency, she would be diligent.
her nostrils flare as a repugnant scent filled the air. she lifted her head, ears pricked, and watched as a monster came roaring down the thunderpath. her eyes widened, and as her gaze followed it in its unforgiving blaze, she watched as a rabbit came bolting across the thunderpath at the last minute. the monster was unforgiving in its conquest, and just when she thought the rabbit had made it across, its rear was struck by the pounding paws of the monster. it hadn't even seemed to realize its kill as it continued to storm down the path, leaving the rabbit behind to twitch and howl on the hot black stone cutting through the territories.
she twitched her whiskers, looking thoughtful.
setting a dainty (but not delicate, not by any means) paw on the thunderpath, just where the grass and earth was stripped of its beauty, she decided to bring herself forward, approaching the seizing rabbit with calculated steps. she glanced back and forth down the stretch of the thunderpath, keeping her ears pricked for the sound of any next possible oncoming monsters. violetdawn approached the rabbit, saw how its chest was rapidly rising and falling in panicked breaths, and, with a split-second decision to have mercy, lurched forwards and delivered a killing blow to its neck, as it released one last final cry before its body went limp, blood hot and fresh in her jaws.
it wasn't a prideful kill of a warrior, but it had the mercy of one. she took the moment to drag its body off of the thunderpath, and then she took the time to examine it, eyes narrowed. its back legs were mangled, twisted and bloodied, but... perhaps the rest of it would be salvageable back in camp. she would hate to see a warm body go to waste.
