Below are extensive lists of both prefixes and suffixes that you are free to use and match together as you see fit. Note that not every acceptable prefix or suffix will be included on this list. These are just some ideas, and you’re free to name your character outside of the realm of names found on here as long as it would be a natural term that cats are familiar with. There exist very few rules to naming, and the most important part is to be creative and have fun! Due to personalities not being apparent when a kit is a day old, the prefix usually defines a quality of a cat-like appearance or a name that is sentimental to their history. Appearance prefixes will describe physical attributes, such as fire for a ginger-colored cat, or patch for a calico cat, etc. Prefixes that are sentimental could be a character naming their kit after a deceased relative or friend, for example. Naming a kit frozen for instance would also be acceptable for a cat being born during a brutal and harsh leaf-bare. BoW is not strict on naming as most sites are, as we promote creativity, but we just ask that everything is kept realistic. Prefixes should stray from defining personality and should be natural terms that wild cats are familiar with. Below are some prefix ideas that you are free to choose from. Not all prefixes will be listed on here, feel free to use one even if it's not on this list. GUIDELINES: Large cats and precious stones can also be used as prefix's. but star and moon are off-limits, as they are sacred terms, one being used as the leader's suffix and the other representing the moonstone. wind, river, thunder, and shadow can be used as suffixes but cannot be used as prefixes. All kits have the suffix of "kit", while all apprentices will have a suffix of "paw", and clan leaders are identified with the suffix of "star" after receiving their gift of nine lives from StarClan. Upon completion of training, all apprentices will receive their full warrior/medicine cat name that is completely unique to them. The clan leader will grant warrior apprentices with their new suffix, while medicine cats have the honor of naming their own apprentices. In the case of adult cats, suffixes are a special way of identifying them and their attributes. These names are given to recognize certain personality traits, appearances, events, or their skills. Example being, the suffix "strike" given to a cat who is quick, and an exceptional hunter. Suffixes may include river, wind, shadow, or thunder but may not include moon.
