[attr="class","arrgenMAINTEXT"]Itâs best not to judge a book by its cover. One-eye is a jolly sort despite her grisly looks, hiding a somber streak under easy smiles and laughs. Sheâs a cat who's seen a lot: a lot of death and a lot of life. Sheâs a worn cat, naturally tired looking and often quiet. But she tries to be the kind of cat who makes those around her laugh and smile; lifeâs too short not to enjoy it. She refuses to retire in spite of her lost eye, and strives to prove her usefulness in daily clan life. Sheâs eager as any elder to boast about her kinsâ achievements and often dotes on any cat younger than herself, whether theyâre warriors or not. She has a tendency to be a bit dramatic in her theatrics, but thatâs all in good fun.

[attr="class","arrgenMAINTEXT"]The skirmish at the Shadowclan border was a sad affair for Robinheartâs family; he even left behind a mate in his wake. Grayfur was heartbroken and Snowclaw, Robinheart's sister, wanted revenge.
After the vigil, Grayfur sought comfort from Snowclaw, which she hesitantly provided; she and her brotherâs mate had never been close beforehand, but she wasnât heartless enough to turn away such a heartbroken tom. After that night, the two became nearly inseparable.
The moons moved on and Snowclaw and Grayfur grew closer. Grayfur fended off Snowclawâs hunger for vengeance on several occasions and Snowclaw became a rock in the storm of Grayfurâs grief. It quickly became obvious how perfect they were for one another.
Despite family disapproval, the two fell in love. And, before long, they were expecting.
The two had a litter of three. From the start, Bluekit was the runt. She was a hungry kit, always eating, even more than she slept. The medicine cat at the time had to give Snowclaw extra herbs in order to produce more milk and Toadfur set about hunting more often, exclusively for his mate. She was a plump kit, with a larger belly that slowed her down compared to her siblings.
She was a quiet kit, wobbling around and following after her larger siblings. She was slower in everything she did than her siblings: she walked later, she spoke later and her parents feared sheâd be forced to start her apprenticeship later too. Mintkit was brash and often complained of Bluekit slowing them down, while Kitekit made an exception for his smaller sister, always making sure she was included and doting on her as he saw his parents doing.
Luckily, by the time their apprentice ceremonies rolled around, Bluekit was ready.
After being assigned Cottonmouth, a tom well-known for his prickliness and general hostile nature, Bluepaw seemed to change overnight. Gone was the plump, struggling kit and in her place was tall, lanky youth ready for the world. It was good timing too, considering Cottonmouth was an unforgiving mentor.
He trained Bluepaw hard, taking her out at dawn and not allowing her to come back until well after Silverpelt had filled the sky. She excelled at hunting, but struggled with Cottonmouthâs battle training. He wouldnât allow that though: his first apprentice would be a well-rounded warrior or theyâd both die trying. It nearly did kill her, but eventually Bluepaw found out how to use her slenderness and speed to her advantage in fights.
Under her mentorâs tutelage, Bluepaw became a warrior a full moon earlier than her siblings. She received the name Bluetail for her agility, and moved into the warriorâs den with some trepidation.
She made friends with a warrior named Reedstep over the days that followed, and even developed a bit of a crush on the noble tom. However, as the moon drew to an end and Mintpaw and Kitepaw received their warrior names, she knew it was all for naught; the way Reedstep greeted her sister and spoke to her and looked to her, told the scrawny warrior all she needed to know.
So Bluetail stepped back and watched as Mintfoot and Reedstep came together. They were the perfect couple, in her sorrowful opinion, and so she sought comfort in Kiteheartâs understanding. The two siblings started spending more time together, especially as Mintfoot started spending more and more time with Reedstep, with little to spare for her littermates. The two especially started hunting together.
The two were out hunting in the moors when the unthinkable happened. They had just caught a bird, a rare find for the two, when the tall grass nearby erupted. Two foxes came barreling out, attacking the duo. As Bluetail was injured, she turned to Kitewhisker; but he was already dead. Unable to fight with a busted leg, Bluetail was forced to retreat back to camp, leaving her brotherâs body behind.
There was not a body to sit vigil over, but a vigil was held nonetheless. No parents should have to see a child die. Grayfur was inconsolable, while Snowclaw was the rock that held the family together that night. Shortly after, Grayfur announced his retirement; he didnât have the heart to be a warrior anymore. Snowclaw followed after him a few moons later.
The moons that passed saw a wider gap form between Mintfoot and Bluetail, the former who blamed the latter for the incident even though she never said it. Reedstep struggled to be a bridge for the two, refusing to choose between his best friend and his mate.
Not long after Snowclaw retired to the eldersâ den, Mintfoot announced her pregnancy, to Reedstepâs glee. Bluetail was excited, but realistic: it was unlikely her sister would let her near those kits.
Then something went wrong with the kitting, however; Bluetail never heard the specifics, only woke up the next morning to learn her sister was gone. She had stood at the nursery entrance with Reedstep, speechless as she stared at the mewling pile of kits another queen was tending to. Both her siblings, gone, in the span of ten moons.
Reedstep turned to her then and stated plainly that he couldnât do this. Bluetail had snapped out of her own haze and immediately promised him he didnât have to do this, not alone. She would help her best friend with her sisterâs kits; it was her duty and one sheâd happily fulfil.
The first thing the two did was name the three little kits; Bluetail let Reedstep do that. He chose Lilykit for a white tom, Cranekit for a silver tom and Spiderkit for a brown molly. Bluetail started visiting the nursery daily after that, even more often than Reedstep, who tried to bury himself in his warrior duties.
She was there when their eyes first opened, when they each took their first wobbly step. She was there when Lilykit began to show his brown points, she renamed him Mudkit. She never claimed to be their mother, -- she often corrected them when they called her so -- but she was more a parent to them than their own father.
As their apprentice ceremonies rolled around, Bluetail put her foot down. She cornered Reedstep and gave him a proper dressing down. How could he not be there for his kits until now? If he thought heâd never interact with his own offspring, he had another thing coming. So it was thanks to Bluetail that Reedstep actually started to be a part of his kitsâ lives as they became Mudpaw, Cranepaw and Spiderpaw.
All seemed well, until halfway through her kinsâ apprenticeships. She was on a patrol through the moors with Spiderpaw, when her niece shrieked. She didnât look, just reacted by leaping in front of the younger molly. She received a snake bite to the face, in one eye for her trouble. She was immediately taken to the medicine catâs den.
She spent many a day in a feverish haze of faces and scents, but eventually pulled through. However, her eye had turned into a rotten mess and had to be removed. She was left with a gaping whole in both her face and her vision. It took many moons to relearn to hunt and fight, but she had her family and Reedstep behind her every step of the way.
Her parents only lived long enough to see Mudpaw, Cranepaw and Spiderpaw became Mudface, Cranenose and Spidertail and then they passed on, together, in their sleep a few nights later. Thankfully they did not live to see her ironically renamed Snake-eye.
